The Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, during his visit to Nouakchott, Mauritania, for the cultural capital selection ceremony of the Islamic world, held a meeting with the Mauritanian President to extend greetings and a verbal message from the President of Iran to the government and people of Mauritania.
According to Tasnim news agency, Mohammad Mahdi Esmaili, in his meeting with President Mohammad Ghazwani, emphasized the importance of expanding relations with Islamic, Arab, and African countries to foster new interactions.
Esmaili highlighted the government’s fresh approach to public diplomacy and expressed satisfaction with the increased cultural interactions between Iran and the Islamic world as well as African countries. He regarded the sidelines of the cultural capital summit, where he had the opportunity to meet and consult with various culture ministers from Islamic nations, as an ideal platform for strengthening cultural ties.
The minister emphasized the need to fully utilize this significant potential, stating that these meetings demonstrate that Iran’s cultural opportunities play a vital role in enhancing the public diplomacy of the Islamic Republic.
During their meeting, President Ghazvani of Mauritania praised the unwavering and principled stance of the Islamic Republic of Iran on matters concerning the Islamic world. He emphasized the importance and strategic nature of developing political, economic, and cultural relations between the two countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
In conclusion, President Ghazvani expressed his desire to visit Tehran and extended his gratitude to Dr. Raisi for the invitation.
Furthermore, on the sidelines of the ceremony announcing Nouakchott as the cultural capital of the Islamic world, the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance held discussions with several ministers from the host and Islamic countries in attendance. The talks focused on facilitating introductions between artists from different countries, organizing artistic programs, and fostering the exchange of cultural and artistic works.
It is worth noting that Nouakchott has been selected as the cultural capital of the Islamic world for the year 2023 by the Islamic Educational, Cultural, and Scientific Organization (ISCO), an affiliate of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
