This academic interfaith dialogue brings together Christian, Muslim, and Brahma Kumaris scholars to explore the intersection of religious traditions and environmental responsibility. Organized by The Islamic College, the event examines how faith can guide humanity toward environmental sustainability and climate justice. It serves as a collaborative platform for discussing the role of diverse spiritual perspectives in addressing global ecological crises. Rachel Priestman
Interfaith Co-ordinator, Brahma Kumaris (UK)
Facilitates dialogue and understanding between diverse faith traditions. For over 20 years, she has studied, practised, and taught Raja Yoga Meditation with the Brahma Kumaris. She holds a B.A. Honours in German from the University of Bristol and a postgraduate diploma in Library, Archive & Information Studies from University College London, and has worked across academic librarianship, urban regeneration, PR, marketing, and arts management.
Sheikh Mirza Abbas
Scholar and Lecturer, The Islamic College
Has taught seminarian studies at the Islamic College for the past decade, with a focus on spiritual teaching and training. He has served several Shi’i communities in the UK as a resident scholar and lectures extensively across the US and Europe. He trained at the Hawza Ilmiyyah of Qum, holds an MA in Islamic Theology from the University of Birmingham, and is currently pursuing a PhD in practical mysticism at the University of Exeter.
Dr. Chris Hewer
Christian Theologian, specialist in Christian–Muslim relations
Has worked in the field of Muslims in Britain and Christian–Muslim relations since 1986, including at the Centre for the Study of Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations (Selly Oak, Birmingham) and as Adviser on Inter-Faith Relations to the Bishop of Birmingham (1999–2005) and St Ethelburga Fellow in Christian-Muslim Relations (2006–2010). He continues to teach study days and residential courses and to develop written and electronic resources on Christian–Muslim relations.
